Joint Replacement and Preservation

Is hip or knee pain keeping you from enjoying life to the fullest?

If your hip or knee pain is getting worse, it may be time to consider joint replacement.

Vanderbilt Bone & Joint offers unmatched expertise and experience in hip and knee replacement. Our surgeons perform nearly a thousand joint replacement procedures at Williamson Medical Center each year. We use the most advanced surgical procedures, including the RIO® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopaedic System. This technology allows smaller, more precise incisions, less recovery time and more joint functionality. Watch this video to learn more on the RIO® technology.

But there’s more to joint replacement than surgery. We offer each patient a personalized treatment plan, including pre-operative education classes, physical therapy and social support through our Accelerated Recovery Program. Our program is uniquely designed to get you back to your life as quickly as possible.

The Accelerated Recovery Program encourages patients to walk and move around almost immediately, usually on the same day as surgery. We use a sophisticated combination of pain medications to keep you as comfortable as possible in the days after your hip or knee surgery. Physical therapists and other specialists on the team work to get you back on your feet rapidly. Patients usually are ready to go home in two days or less, compared with the more typical three days or more.

Joint Preservation

Do you have a hip or knee problem that’s painful, but not severe enough to require joint replacement? These conditions were previously thought to be untreatable, but new advances in technology now allow us to successfully manage a wide variety of hip problems in young patients. We can reduce pain, improve quality of life and sometimes delay the need for hip replacement surgery.

At Vanderbilt Bone & Joint, we believe that the most important aspect of hip preservation surgery is the ability to consider all of a patient’s information. We look at the history of the problem, physical limitations, physical examination, X-rays and perhaps even MRI images to make the right diagnosis and offer personalized treatment plans.

Many conditions and injuries can affect your bones, joints and connective tissues such as tendons and ligaments.
