Comprehensive Behavioral Health Assessments for Professionals

Our staff have experience evaluating clients with a variety of personal and or professional difficulties. We understand that every case is unique. VCAP evaluates each individual's case using consultants and experts within Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the local professional community.

The evaluation, depending on complexity, will be a two to four day process on the Vanderbilt campus in Nashville, Tennessee.

During the assessment, the client will participate in intensive exploration of the situations that led to the consultation with the assessment team.  A comprehensive assessment will include the following services:

  • Psychological Testing and Reports: Standardized testing to help classify and quantify the client's psychiatric diagnosis and clarify any personality factors that impair interpersonal and job effectiveness.
  • Psychiatric Evaluation: A comprehensive interview assesses the client for mental illness. This will include addiction evaluation and screening tests to clarify substance use issues, gambling, work and relationship or sexual behavior problems.
  • Psychosocial History: This includes  social, environmental and family relationships, spiritual and sexual health and boundary issues. An interview with family members may also be included.
  • Medical History and Physical Examination
  • Blood Work and Drug Testing
  • Collateral Information: With client permission, this includes contacting referral sources, complainants, family members and professional or business associates to establish a more complete perspective of the client's situation.
  • Review of all pertinent medical, legal and employment records
  • A comprehensive written report for the client and referral source
  • Follow-up meeting with the assessment team to review findings and recommendations from our report.

Other services may be offered at extra cost, including hospitalization if necessary, consultation with subspecialists at Vanderbilt (e.g. endocrinology, neurology), and when indicated, neuropsychological examination or polygraph testing.

Referral Resources

VCAP staff are familiar with an extensive network of clinical resources.  Recommendations for addiction treatment, psychiatric hospitalization or follow-up, individual, marital or family therapy can be made as part of our report.

In addition, resources for continuing education courses, books and video materials can be recommended.

Monitoring

VCAP staff are qualified to provide monitoring and follow-up services in certain situations. These may involve addiction recovery or medication management. Reassessment to assure compliance with past recommendations may also be provided.

Other Screening Services

VCAP staff have training in the use of the Abel Assessment of Sexual Interest (AASI).
