Why Choose Pregnancy Care and Delivery at Vanderbilt
- Experienced team
Every member of our team is specially trained for caring for women during pregnancy, labor and delivery. This includes board-certified obstetricians, certified midwives, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, nurses specializing in obstetrics and labor and delivery, and obstetric anesthesiologists. We have the skills and training to care for any woman’s pregnancy, including those at high risk of complications.
- Specialized expertise
When you’re pregnant, the most carefully made plans may change. By choosing Vanderbilt, you can be sure you have everything and everyone you need, whatever happens. If you or your baby needs a specialist, our colleagues are at the ready. If your baby needs special care before or after birth, we have the most advanced Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and our Fetal Center at Vanderbilt.
- Personalized care
Few decisions in life are more important than where and how you give birth. Whether you are looking for a water birth or low-intervention delivery, or if you need a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) or a cesarean section, we have a full spectrum of birthing options at Vanderbilt University Hospital and Vanderbilt Birth Center. Our team works with you to develop a birth plan to meet your and your family's unique needs. Your goals and comfort are also important to us, so we offer a wide variety of pain management options.
- Convenience
You don’t have to choose between convenience and the best possible care. With numerous women’s health clinics throughout Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt has made it easier than ever to get the care you need where you need it most. Our clinics offer general and specialized obstetric care, midwifery and maternal-fetal medicine services. Some services, such as genetic counseling, lactation support and certain prenatal appointments and maternal fetal medicine consults, may also be offered via telehealth. We partner with hospitals throughout the region to allow you to deliver close to home, too.
- Advanced care
As part of a large medical center, our team and their colleagues can address complex medical problems that may affect a pregnancy. These include diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, lupus, seizure disorder, loss of an earlier pregnancy, history of drug or alcohol use, or a history of pregnancy complications such as preterm labor or preeclampsia. We also care for women pregnant with multiples.
- Bundled payment
If your employer participates in Vanderbilt Health’s maternity bundle program, you may be eligible for MyMaternityHealth. MyMaternityHealth provides an enhanced medical care and service experience for expectant mothers with little to no out-of-pocket costs. The program is an innovative approach that coordinates and “bundles” all the services an expectant mother will need as a part of her pregnancy. *Please check with your employer’s human resources department to see if MyMaternityHealth is an available healthcare benefit.
