Teen Summer Program

If you are between 16 and 18 years old and wish to volunteer at the Adult Hospital during the summer, we have limited opportunities available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will begin accepting applications after Feb. 1, 2017 and interview applicants until May 17, 2017 or until the program fills up, whichever happens first.

We accept teen volunteers in these two roles:

Activity and Hospitality Cart

Distribute puzzles, activity packets, games, magazines and other items to families in the waiting areas. Visit with families, help with directions and provide general information and assistance.
Department: Guest Services
Volunteers Needed: Seven days a week, 8:00 a.m. - .8 p.m.
Volunteer Shift: Two to four hours per week

Guest Ambassador

Assist staff in identifying patients and families who need assistance while visiting the Medical Center. Meet, greet and escort patients and visitors around the hospital during their stay.
Department: Guest Services
Volunteers Needed: Monday - Friday 7:00am-5pm (busiest time 7:00am 2:00pm)
Volunteer Shift: 2-3 hours per week

Please contact Volunteer Services at (615) 936-3078 for more information.

You will need to make a minimum commitment of one 2-3 hour shift for eight weeks with no more than two consecutive weeks of absences. We require our summer volunteers to commit to at least 25 hours of service over the duration of the summer.

Prior to applying, all potential summer teen volunteers and their parents or guardians should consider the following:

  • Will you be 16 by March 1, 2017?

  • Are you going to summer camps; summer school; mission trips; vacations; have work commitments; involved in sports?

  • Does your summer schedule allow you to volunteer eight weeks with no more than 2 consecutive weeks of absences?

  • Are you available to volunteer once a week, same day and same time every week?

  • Do you have consistent transportation?

  • Are you mature, outgoing, friendly, proactive and willing to engage people as you help them?
