Skin cancer screening

Skin cancer can occur at any age. Squamous and basal cell cancers are common types and most can be removed from the skin. Melanoma is the type of skin cancer most likely to spread to other parts of the body and is harder to treat.

Risk factors include sun exposure, light skin, blue or green eyes, red or blonde hair, many moles, and family history of skin cancer.

Regular self-checks can help with early detection. Frequency of full-body skin checks by a dermatologist will depend on your risk.
