C.J. Stimson, MD, JD

Dr. Stimson is a nationally recognized leader in value-based health care and a practicing cancer surgeon. He spent four years as a senior advisor with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) where he supported the federal government’s transition from a volume- to value-based health care purchaser. In 2016, Dr. Stimson was the first surgeon at CMMI, providing clinical and regulatory expertise related to the development of alternative payment models. In Tennessee, he is pioneering unique payment solutions for employers across the state and helping providers and purchasers navigate the shift from fee-for-service to value-based care.

He can speak to health care’s shift from fee-for-service to value-based care and how it will impact the industry and the nation. Additionally, he can share insight on the importance of value-based care models to propel better health outcomes, improve patient experiences and increase affordability for employers and employees alike. He also has experience with federal health policy, both the legislative and executive branches.
