MyOrthoHealth – Osteoarthritis for Employers

From Reduced Risk to Enhanced Rehab: Orthopedic Care Re-imagined

As many as one-third of hip and knee replacements in the United States may be unnecessary, costing Americans an estimated $8.3 billion a year. With the MyOrthoHealth – Osteoarthritis bundle, we help employees find the most appropriate course of treatment for their joint pain. In many cases, this means avoiding costly and time-consuming surgical procedures. For some patients, surgery will be the most clinically appropriate pathway. For others, a personalized plan involving physical therapy and other complementary treatments can produce quality outcomes.

Vanderbilt is one of the first providers in the nation to offer a condition-based bundle for orthopedics. With our osteoarthritis bundle, you will pay one blended rate for all patients who participate, regardless of whether they undergo surgery or take a non-surgical path. Our pricing assumes a surgical rate that is lower than the general market. This means we are at risk to get it right. As a result, employers enjoy reduced costs and predictable financial responsibilities, and we ensure patients get the right level of care, based on their individual circumstances.

What’s Included

The MyOrthoHealth – Osteoarthritis bundle includes coordinated, proactive care from the initial visit and physical therapy to surgery and rehabilitation when needed.

Services include:

  • Concierge support from a dedicated patient navigator
  • Telehealth options for check-ins and follow-ups
  • Personalized treatment plan, including physical therapy, weight loss and complementary therapies to explore whether a non-surgical approach will achieve desired results

If surgery is determined to be the most appropriate course of treatment, the bundle includes all services as described in our Hip & Knee Surgery bundle:

  • Office visits pre- and post-surgery
  • Specialist visits for surgery clearance
  • All activities related to chosen procedure (hip or knee replacement) and hospital stay
  • Post-operative rehab
  • Low to no out-of-pocket costs

How It Works

  • An interested candidate first speaks with our patient navigator, who confirms eligibility, explains the process and collects required information.
  • Once administrative eligibility has been confirmed, the patient will be scheduled for an ortho consult to confirm that osteoarthritis is the correct diagnosis. At this point, we also make an initial determination of whether a non-operative or operative pathway is best for the patient.
  • Patients who are automatically referred to an operative pathway proceed with the experience described in the Hip & Knee Surgery bundle. For the non-operative pathway, we conduct basic imaging and establish a personalized treatment plan that includes physical therapy, weight loss and complementary therapies.
  • After six weeks, we evaluate the patient’s progress to determine whether to continue with therapy. If symptoms have improved, we resume with the treatment plan and re-evaluate progress once a quarter.
  • If physical therapy is not producing desired results, we will schedule a surgical consult and conduct advanced imaging.
  • If the individual is determined to be a good candidate for surgery, he or she will be scheduled for the most appropriate procedure.
  • From this point, the patient will proceed with the experience described in the Hip & Knee Surgery bundle.
