Serving Rutherford County
For years, Vanderbilt Health has been a part of Rutherford County, caring for thousands of children and adults from this community. It’s personalized care delivered by more than 1,700 Vanderbilt employees who call Rutherford County home.
We’re enhancing our commitment to serve Rutherford County with plans for a new 42-bed community hospital near the intersection of Veterans Parkway and S.R. 840, about 8 miles west of downtown Murfreesboro.
This full-service hospital will provide emergency care, surgical capabilities and heart catheterization services. It will enhance the obstetric, pediatric and ICU care in the county.
How You Can Help
To build Vanderbilt Rutherford Hospital, Vanderbilt has requested approval from Tennessee’s Health Services and Development Agency.
We filed the Certificate of Need application in response to requests for expansion of our services from government, business and community leaders, health care professionals and – most importantly – many of our patients.

Re: Vanderbilt University Medical Center d/b/a Vanderbilt Rutherford Hospital
Why We Want to Build Vanderbilt Rutherford Hospital
Vanderbilt Health is a significant provider of inpatient care in Rutherford County.
In fact, last year, we served more than 52,000 unique patients from Rutherford County, a 20% increase over 2018. More than 75% of those patients drove to Nashville to get that care in Davidson County.
When we deliver this care closer to home, those patients will have easier access to the services they seek from Vanderbilt as their hospital of choice.
The explosive population growth in the county supports the need for an additional hospital in the county. Our goal is to enhance the health care available in the area for patients who choose Vanderbilt for care.
A Natural Extension of Our Care
The Vanderbilt Rutherford project is a natural extension of medical services we’ve introduced to this region over the past decade.
Vanderbilt currently has more than 140 doctors and advanced practitioners providing care in the county.
In addition, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt offers a variety of services in two locations in Murfreesboro, from urgent and after-hours care to surgery, diabetes care, ENT, gastroenterology, orthopedics, urology and genetics clinics. Surgery services are supported by X-ray, ultrasound and MRI.
