About Emily C. Barker
Emily C. Barker, MD, an Assistant Professor of Medicine and internist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, joined Vanderbilt Executive Wellness and Concierge Medicine in 2019. She enjoys working in concierge medicine and primary care because it allows time to get to know her patients and work alongside them in their health and wellness journey.
Barker received her medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine in 2002 and completed her internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2005. She spent the early years of her career in teaching roles at the University of California San Diego and University of Texas Houston.
Longing for the physician-patient connection and personal care that primary care offers, in 2009, Barker established one of the first concierge programs in Houston.
When it comes to a patient’s health journey, Barker is an advocate for prevention and encourages communication and peer-to-peer discussions between patient, provider and all subspecialties involved.
