MyWeightLossHealth – Medical Weight Loss FAQs

What is the Medical Weight Loss Bundle?

The Medical Weight Loss Bundle helps you lose weight through a combination of multidisciplinary clinical support and medicine when indicated. This bundle is designed for individuals who are likely to achieve a healthy weight loss outcome without undergoing a surgical procedure.

What does the Medical Weight Loss Bundle cost?

For information on cost, please visit your employer’s benefits website, or schedule an appointment with one of our patient navigators.

Who is eligible?

To confirm your eligibility for the bundle, please check with your employer or start conversation in the Chat box below.

How do I qualify?

You qualify for the Medical Weight Loss Bundle if you have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of greater than or equal to 35 and have not had a surgical weight loss procedure within the past 12 months. (Calculate your BMI here.)

To confirm your eligibility, start a conversation in the Chat box below.

Do I still need to enroll even if I have insurance coverage?

Yes. Eligible health plan beneficiaries must enroll prior to their first consult with a Vanderbilt Health obesity specialist at the Weight Loss Center. This will ensure all bundle-related care will be covered by your health insurer.

Use the Chat Box below to complete pre-screening. Once complete, you will be directed on how to contact a patient navigator for more information on enrollment.

How do I get started?

Follow this two-step process to ensure your care is covered as part of a MyHealth Bundle program:

  1. Complete a consult with a patient navigator: The patient navigator will determine if you qualify through your employer and can help schedule your appointments with a Vanderbilt Health provider. Confirm your eligibility in the Chat box below or call (615) 936–BNDL (2635) for more information.

  2. Meet your care team: Complete your first appointment with a Vanderbilt Health provider to confirm your clinical eligibility.

What happens if my health plan changes mid-bundle?

You must be enrolled in a bundle-eligible health plan. You can move between bundle-eligible health plans mid-bundle, but you cannot transition to an ineligible health plan and stay in the bundle. Please visit your employer’s benefits website to make sure you qualify.

If your insurance changes mid-bundle (even if it's still a bundle-covered health plan), you must call your patient navigator at (615) 936–BNDL (2635).

What services are included in the bundle?

How long does the Medical Weight Loss Bundle last?

Overall, medical weight loss treatment takes 12-18 months. At or around 12 months into your weight loss journey, your weight loss provider will begin your transition out of the bundle to ensure your care and weight is stable before the end of your bundle.

What if I want to switch to the Surgical Weight Loss Bundle?

If you are interested in the Surgical Weight Loss Bundle or are unsure about which clinical pathway is right for you, please let your Medical Weight Loss provider know at your first appointment.

Please note the MyWeightLossHealth – Surgical Weight Loss Bundle will have additional screening criteria for bundle eligibility.

What happens at the conclusion of the Medical Weight Loss Bundle?

After six months, your provider will review your progress and help you decide whether it’s in your best interest to continue participating in the Vanderbilt Weight Loss Center or if you can progress on your own with check-ins from your primary care provider.

If there is no significant clinical progress after six months, the Weight Loss Center can also recommend that you stop care or consider enrollment in the Surgical Weight Loss Bundle.

At 12 months you will start to work with a provider to ensure a seamless transition once the Medical Weight Loss Bundle ends.

Remember that when your bundle coverage is complete, any visits and related prescriptions from the Vanderbilt Weight Loss Center will go through your primary insurance for coverage.
