Why Choose the Comprehensive Care Clinic at Vanderbilt
- Recognized care
The Joint Commission has named the Vanderbilt Comprehensive Care Clinic as a Primary Care Medical Home for HIV patients. The Tennessee Department of Health has also designated our clinic as an HIV Center of Excellence.
- Team approach
In addition to doctors and nurse practitioners who have experience caring for patients living with HIV, your team includes a pharmacist, behavioral health specialists, addiction medicine specialists, social workers, case managers, patient coordinators and other referral specialists. Together we provide expert care for your HIV-related needs and general health. We also provide HIV prevention for those at risk for acquiring HIV.
- Care coordinators
Our team of nurse case managers and social workers will ensure you understand your medical and behavioral health conditions and help navigate insurance plans and payment options to keep your costs as low as possible. They will also help with connection to community support resources, medication management, medication counseling, and refills.
- Specialized maternal-fetal care
During pregnancy, women with HIV receive care from our labor and delivery specialists to reduce the risk of the child becoming infected. We offer counseling, initiation of preventive antiviral treatment and coordination of essential pediatric services for the baby. Our pediatric HIV physician carefully follows these children for 12-18 months after birth until their status is determined.
- Support services
We coordinate with other community-based organizations serving people with HIV to maximize your education and care opportunities.
- Clinical trials
Because we are part of an academic medical center, we offer access to some of the most promising new treatments and therapies being tested in clinical trials. Participating in a clinical trial is always optional. Find a clinical trial.

We want to make your experience as seamless and stress-free as possible. You can use our secure online portal, My Health at Vanderbilt, to send messages to your care team, schedule appointments, manage medications and access your medical records.
