Clinical Trial Mythbusters
Patient studies called clinical trials are an important step in bringing promising discoveries in cancer research into the clinic where they can make a difference for patients. However, myths about clinical trial participation may hinder people from volunteering. Fewer than 5 percent of eligible patients participate in trials, slowing the pace of advances.
A group of volunteer "research advocates" at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center took on this challenge with a tongue-in-cheek parody of the TV show "Jeopardy," complete with faux celebrities and information from Vanderbilt experts.
The program has been presented in community settings as well as featured at meetings of the American Association of Clinical Research and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
